CRUX Linux - Nothing new

without comments

crux.gif
To me, it was yet-another-linux-distro.
Installation was a pain. Partitioning, formatting, making swap, basic system config, mounting, installing and loading kernel and all setps should be taken manually. Its installer script is just joke!
Default keyboard map was SV-LATIN1, which is svensk key mapping. And timezone is default set to stockholm.
The only good point was it’s BSD style port system.
If you need BSD style ports system, CRUX is not the solution.

This one is really ridiculous: Whole Opera business in being threatened by a damaged stylesheet on MSN website! Opera claims that microsoft is doing this by reason. But who cares?

The Register has a complete story on this issue.

Early Access to Redhat 9 - Early Release!

without comments

redhat8.gif

Redhat is offering early access to RH9 ISO images to paid subscribers. It will be available by end of the march.
They are releasing this version too earlier than I expceted. There was not even an 8.1 version. There should be important changes in it that they are releasing a dot-oh version this soon.

Apple may switch to Intel

without comments

apple.gif

When I first heard of Dvorak’s prediction about Apple Switching to Intel, I didn’t believe it. But the new story of Adobe to choose PC as preferred platform was not funny at all.
While apple is encouraging everyone to switch from PC, Charlie White comes up with a strong proof that Apple’s fastest machine is not as fast as a Dell P4 machine. Apple’s performace was 70% of PC performance at the best, according to the graphs.

Slashdot has also prepared a battlefield for fans ;)

I’ve just found some great articles on network traffic engineering by Iljitsch Van Beijnum.
It discusses about Queuing, Traffic Shaping, Policing and BGP multihoming.

All articles are parts of Iljitsch’s BGP book. This book is a must have for all multihomed network administrators.

Check it out here.

Salam Pax is a guy who is blogging from the heart of Iraq.
But did you know that there is no internet for individuals in iraq, and the only existing internet connection is already under control by government?
I wonder how does he check his web based email from baghdad?
